What is the pilgrimage?
It is a religious tradition that began in 1734 due to the severe diseases that plagued the city of Guadalajara. The pilgrimage ends on October 12 with the carrying of the Virgin from the Cathedral of Guadalajara to the Basilica of Zapopan, it is a ritual that begins in May where "La Generala" visits parishes, hospitals, schools. A celebration in which more than 2 million people participate, dancers from different communities, a tradition that in 2018 was named Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
